Busy week….

This past week has been a busy yet great one! A couple of birthdays along with a wedding shower kept me in the kitchen!

As y’all know, I am a member of the New Braunfels Elks Lodge. One of the first couples we met were Deb and Fred Adams. They welcomed us in with open arms. We now consider them our great friends!

Deb’s friend Debbie called to ask if I would make Deb a cake. She asked for the cake to be strawberry with cream cheese icing and then let me use my own imagination for decorating.

I ended up making a 2 layer 10″ strawberry cake iced with cream cheese icing. I surrounded the cake with French Vanilla Pirouette Cookies and topped the cake with white chocolate covered strawberries.

Here is what I came up with:

Another friend of mine from the Elks Lodge is Mimi. She is such a positive and kind person. Mimi’s niece is getting married and they asked me to make cupcakes for one of her showers. The wedding colors are navy, cranberry and green apples. I made chocolate cupcakes with buttercream icing and small navy fondant flowers. I also make french vanilla cupcakes with cranberry colored roses and green apple leaves.

I grew up on the southwest side of Houston, Texas. We lived in a great neighborhood called Huntington Village. As a child, it was awesome. We had so many kids in the neighborhood. I had many friends and back then, it was safe to roam around the area. One of my friends from elementary school was Bryan Dolch. My family ended up moving away from Huntington Village when I was in middle school. I lost touch with Bryan. Thanks to facebook, Bryan and I reconnected. Now listen to this….Bryan lives in New Braunfels (2 and a half hours away from Houston) and he lives in my SAME neighborhood. What are the odds?

Bryan contacted me a few weeks ago and asked me to make his son’s birthday cake. Jacob is all about legos and his favorite color is blue. I ended up going with a 2 tier cake decorated in buttercream. I made marshmallow fondant and hand cut legos out of it.

My next door neighbors are so wonderful. Sheri and David (along with their kiddos) have turned into great friends! Not only did we get them, but we also became friends with their parents. Sheri’s mom watches her kiddos while she works. The kids call her Momo and we ALL love Momo. When I found out about her birthday, I wanted to make her a cake. I did a simple confetti sheet cake with buttercream icing and bright decorations. Momo is from Hawaii and bright colors just suit her!
